Lessons Learnt from Kai Tak Redevelopment

Dissemination of experience is extremely important for the healthy development of the engineering profession. Therefore, a series of "Lessons Learnt" Web-CPD courses is launched so as to disseminate experience we gained in some past construction projects in Hong Kong and mainland China. The 6th course of the series is on "Lessons Learnt from Kai Tak Redevelopment".
The site of the former Hong Kong International Airport at Kai Tak was vacated for redevelopment when the airport was moved to Chek Lap Kok in 1998. Many minor works were being carried out stage by stage to prepare for the final kick-off of the forthcoming redevelopments. The first major redevelopment project in the Kai Tak Area was Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in 2010. Shortly after, the construction works for the MTR Shatin Central Link were commenced in 2013, followed by the launching of many other projects including Kai Tak River Improvement Works (the former Kai Tak Nullah), Trunk Road T2, Central Kowloon Route, as well as Kai Tak Sports Park, not to mention more than twenty other construction projects for public housing, and private residential and commercial developments that were commenced shortly after 2010.
In this Web-CPD course, the construction details and technical concerns of the redevelopment of Kai Tak Area will be presented with real-life examples. The speaker will make use of his past studies on these projects and many of the photographs in his personal collection to illustrate to the audience what has been carried out in the redevelopment.
