Pile foundations are commonly used in Hong Kong to support various types of infrastructure and buildings. The common pile foundations in Hong Kong include large-diameter bored piles, barrettes, precast prestressed spun concrete piles, socketed steel H-piles, mini-piles, driven steel H-piles, etc. This CPD course is designed to be an introductory course to cover the fundamentals of design and construction of pile foundations, in particular, the regulatory requirements of the HKSAR Government as stipulated in the Code of Practice for Foundations 2017 (2024 Edition) (including amendments up to June 2024). This CPD course will cover:
Classification of pile foundations
Design concepts of pile foundations
Estimation of pile capacity
Load transfer mechanisms of piles
Functions of piles
Legal and contractual requirements for the design and construction of pile foundations in Hong Kong
Design and construction of different types of pile foundations commonly used in Hong Kong, including large-diameter bored piles, socketed steel H-piles, driven piles, mini-piles, etc.
