The full-day CPD course will be delivered on the web using Zoom.
Dissemination of experience is essential for the proficient and continuing development of the engineering profession. Therefore, a series of "Lessons Learned" Web-CPD courses has been launched to disseminate the experience we gained from past construction projects worldwide. The upcoming course of the series is "Lessons Learned from Recent Developments of Major Tier-one Chinese Cities and Beyond ."
Since the reform and opening-up of China in the early 1980s, China has undergone unimaginable changes in economy, general administration, infrastructure developments, large-scale urbanization, mastery of technologies/manufacturing chains, environmental upgrading, alleviation of poverty, and so forth. The results are indeed stunning.
This Web-CPD course will be focused on the results observed in major tier-one cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, and Chongqing. Their geographical environments, concepts of urban planning, economic structures, utilization of functional zones and urban spaces, infrastructure developments of the cities, revitalization of heritage assets, and other livelihood issues will be discussed in detail. This course, to a certain extent, is a major part of a China study. It is particularly important for practitioners who are or will be involved in work in China in the long run.
The speaker, Ir. Raymond Wong, with this topic as one of his research focuses when he worked at City University, has studied the developments of all these cities in depth since the 1980s. He will consolidate what he observed in this long and winding process of China's development. In this Web-CPD course, he will use hundreds of these case studies and share with the participants the lessons he has learned.
Course Outline:
General understanding of recent Chinese developments and changes since the reform and opening-up in the 1980s.
General understanding of the potential of the Greater Bay Area (大灣區), the Yangtze Delta (長江三角洲), and the Bohai Economic Rim (環渤海經濟圈).
Detailed explanation of the issues for tier-one cities in China. Many record photos taken by the speaker personally will be used to illustrate the changes during the reform and opening-up process to date. These tier-one cities include:
o Beijing (北京);
o Shanghai (上海);
o Guangzhou (廣州);
o Shenzhen (深圳);
o Tianjin (天津); and
o Chongqing (重慶).
Brief description of some other cities with great development potential, such as Wuhan (武漢), Xian (西安), Hangzhou (杭州), Suzhou (蘇州), Qingdao (青島), ...
