Heritage Preservation and Revitalization
(3rd July 2024)
The full-day CPD course will be delivered on the web using Zoom.
The civilization of China is one of the oldest in the world, dating back to more than 4000 years. However, there are not too many well preserved extant historic buildings or heritage sites today. This situation is more serious in cities or densely populated regions. Although the "history of civilization" of Hong Kong is considerably much shorter than that of mainland China, her effort on heritage preservation and revitalization are not much better.
In recent years, there is an increasing awareness in preserving and revitalizing historic buildings or heritage sites in China as well as in other countries and regions. Governments are allocating more resources to preserve these natural and cultural heritage to prevent them from further deterioration or even complete banishment. The situation in UK is quite different. Despite the bombing damage during World War II, many historical buildings or heritage sites throughout the country remain intact. Many of these heritage sites have been revitalized in the last decade due to the blooming economy of UK. In fact, the energetic property and consumer markets are the major driving forces.
This full-day Web-CPD course is focused on the sharing of the speaker's experience that he has gained in heritage preservation and revitalization projects over the years. He will highlight the nature, types, extent of work, the actual performance/results of these projects and lessons learnt from these projects by using representative case histories in recent years in mainland China, UK and Hong Kong.
