The guidance provides background on the fundamentals of ecology, considers the relationship between ecology and construction, provides an overview of the legislation governing action that can be taken with protected species and habitats, practical guidance on managing these and signposts further guidance.

The guidance is accompanied by a CD-Rom containing a series of toolbox talks, and habitat and species briefings.
