Dr. Ryan W.M. Yan

Dr. Ryan W.M. YAN is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He received all his degrees (BEng, MPhil and PhD) in civil engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Prior to joining HKU, he has been a Research Fellow, Visiting Scholar, and Assistant Professor at HKUST, Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany and the University of Macau, respectively for a total of 6 years. His current research interests include experimental characterization, constitutive and numerical modelling of geomaterials, application of Bayesian analysis to geotechnical engineering, soil-structure interaction as well as field monitoring. He is currently the President-elect of the American Society of Civil Engineers (Hong Kong Section) and is also serving as a committee member of the Geotechnical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. His Master Thesis titled "Three-dimensional Modelling of Diaphragm Wall Installation" was awarded the Best Master Thesis presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers (Hong Kong Section) in 2000. He has received the ICACM Young Investigator Award presented by the International Chinese Association for Computational Mechanics in 2013.
