Ir Alan H.L. Man

Ir Alan H.L. MAN is a civil engineering with more than 40 years of experience in the water sector. He was Managing Director of Black & Veatch (now Binnies) with responsibility for their regional water business until end of 2017. Prior to joining Black & Veatch in 1993, Alan worked for the Water Supplies Department of the Hong Kong Government and a water authority of Australia for a total of 13 years.

His experience includes planning, design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of a wide range of water supply infrastructures. Many major water supply projects carried out in Hong Kong over the past four decades have Alan’s fingerprints, including:

  • Expansion of Raw Water Supply from Mainland to Hong Kong Stage IV (roles: design and construction supervision)

  • Tai Po Water Treatment Works and Aqueducts (roles: design team leader, project manager, project director)

  • Replacement and Rehabilitation of Water Mains (roles: project manager, project director)

  • Development of Hong Kong's Total Water Management Plan (role: project director)

  • Tseung Kwan O Sea Water Desalination Plant (role: project director (ongoing))

Apart from working as an engineering consultant, Alan is teaching Water Resources Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong.
