Ir Professor J.S. Kuang (鄺君尚教授、工程師) is Professor Emeritus at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his PhD in engineering science from the University of Cambridge, England, and PhD in civil engineering from The University of Hong Kong. His expertise encompasses structural and earthquake engineering, specifically emphasizing seismic analysis and design of structures and buildings, reinforced concrete structures, tall buildings, and computational simulation in structural analysis. His research awards include the Telford Premium, the T.K. Hsieh Award, and the Magazine of Concrete Research Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), as well as the Best Transactions Paper Prizes and the Grand R&D Award of Structural Excellence Award from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).  

Ir Professor Kuang is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of ICE, IStructE and HKIE. In 2010, he was elected President of the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE) in Nottingham, UK, and was re-elected in 2012 in Moscow, Russia. He served on the Technical Committee for the Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete 2013, the Steering Committee and the Review Committee for the Code of Practice for Dead and Imposed Loads 2011, and the Steering Committee for the Code of Practice for Seismic Design in Hong Kong, all of the Buildings Department of the HKSAR Government.
