After Hong Kong's return to China in 1997 and the opening of the new Hong Kong International Airport in 1998, the HKSAR Government has focused on developing transportation infrastructures to enhance Hong Kong's urban fabric during the last 30 years, including the highway and railway networks. Some extremely challenging highway infrastructure projects completed since 1997 include the Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), the Central-Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Tuen Mun - Chek Lap Kok Link, the Heung Yuen Wai Highway, the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel, the Central Kowloon Bypass, the Fanling Bypass, and many others.
The speaker will give an overview of these highway infrastructure projects in this half-day Web-CPD course. The major design and construction features of these highway infrastructure projects will be demonstrated through numerous archival photographs he took during his studies.
