Adverse environmental impacts can arise from any construction project, regardless of its location, size, or nature. Issues such as noise, dust, and improper waste management can harm local ecosystems, affect the health and well-being of site workers and nearby residents, and lead to costly program delays. Effective environmental management is therefore essential to minimizing these impacts and ensuring project success. Its importance is further heightened by the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events worldwide, which can disrupt construction activities and exacerbate environmental risks.

All construction projects must comply with applicable environmental legislation in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. Failure to do so may result in legal action, financial penalties, and criminal convictions.  Site workers play a critical role in identifying, preventing, and controlling environmental risks by following established procedures, adopting good environmental practices, and promptly reporting potential hazards.

This CPD course will cover a range of environmental issues relating to construction projects in the UK and Hong Kong. It will also highlight the guidance developed in the 5th edition of CIRIA C811 Environmental good practice on site guide (5th edition).
