Demolition is an important construction activity that many construction professionals and practitioners have often overlooked. The designs of many modern infrastructures are extremely complex. They can be of extremely large volume, high headroom, long span, complicated layout, odd shape, etc. They can be partly or completely constructed of precast concrete elements, tensioned members, etc. They can be in the form of a basement, an earth-retaining structure, an overhanging cantilever, etc. Therefore, traditional methods of demolition can not be applied to demolish these structures safely and effectively.

This half-day Web-CPD course is focused on the sharing of the speaker's experience that he has gained in demolition projects in the past 20 years. The speaker will illustrate the use of innovative techniques to meet the challenges of demolition works, including the use of diamond wire saw cutting, coring, hydraulic splitting, remote-controlled robots, superhigh-pressure water jetting, and effective combinations of these techniques. The uses of visual systems and BIM to enhance the safety and effectiveness of demolition works will be presented. The adoption of the green demolition concept for environmental protection will also be presented. Real-life projects will be used as illustrations.
