Environmental Impact Assessment: A Tool towards Sustainability - 18th January 2019

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has long been a tool for achieving sustainable development through impact assessment and option selection for policies, programmes and plans as well as engineering projects in Hong Kong and overseas. It also becomes the focus of discussion and public concern of the society, in particular for mega and controversial projects such as the third runway system of the Hong Kong International Airport.

This one-day continuing professional development (CPD) course is designed for decision-makers in government and private sector, planners, developers, engineering practitioners and green groups to acquire essential knowledge on the basic theory and best practices of environmental impact assessment applied to engineering projects. This course will cover the basic knowledge including the definition and nature of EIA, its evolution and application, details of the EIA process and report. In addition to project EIA, strategic environmental impact assessment (SEA) will also be introduced as a tool applicable for policies/programmes/plans evaluation. The legislative framework and licensing requirements under the Hong Kong EIA Ordinance will be discussed in details. The presentation will be supplemented by case studies.
