Ir Professor J.S. Kuang (鄺君尚教授、工程師) is a Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his PhD in engineering science from the University of Cambridge and PhD in civil engineering from The University of Hong Kong. His teaching and research interests are primarily focused on the design and analysis of buildings and structures for seismic resistance, reinforced concrete, and computational modelling and simulation for structural concrete. His outstanding research on seismic resistance of concrete structures has earned him the prestigious awards including the Telford Premium, the T.K. Hsieh Award and the Magazine of Concrete Research Prize from ICE, and the HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prizes from HKIE.

Professor Kuang is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of ICE, IStructE and HKIE. He served on the Technical Committee for Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete 2013, and on the Review Committee and the Steering Committee for Code of Practice for Dead and Imposed Loads 2011, and is serving on the Steering Committee for Code of Practice for Seismic Design in Hong Kong, the Buildings Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
